Hey everyone and welcome to the last week of the Adult Summer Reading Program!! Everyone has read some great books and some have won some awesome prizes! I hope you all made some dents in your "to be read" piles, were transported to cool places, or learned some useful information.  Even though the program is coming to a close, your local library branch is still open and hosting interesting programs and providing you with fun books, movies, and audio.

Remember to leave a comment here or on our Facebook page so you can included in our final weekly drawing for a $20 Walmart gift card and our Grand Prize drawing for a $100 Walmart gift card!! Comments left after 11:59pm on Sunday, August 5th will not be counted, so get them in before then. Good luck!

Week 5

Well we're certainly having fun this summer! How about y'all? Welcome to the Week 5 post for the Adult Summer Reading Program! I hope everyone is getting through some awesome books. If you're not...maybe you need some help finding something good to read. BRL recently subscribed to NoveList which is an excellent readers advisory database full of read-a-likes, recommended reading lists, book discussion guides and more! Click the link and try it out, you just might find some excellent reads for the rest of the summer.

A couple reminders: please be sure to give your first and last name, as well as the branch you registered at when you post your book comments so that we can identify and contact you if your name is selected in the weekly and grand prize drawings. Also, drawing weeks run from Monday through Sunday online. If you finish a book 1am on Monday, just wait until the Monday post pops up on the blog to post your comment.

Week 2

Hello everyone and welcome to Week 2! I hope you're keeping cool and enjoying the many good books out there.

This week, I just wanted to share a few books that are getting some great buzz out in the "blogosphere."

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn - On the morning of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick's wife Amy suddenly disappears. The police immediately suspect Nick. Amy's friends reveal that she was afraid of him, that she kept secrets from him. He swears it isn't true. A police examination of his computer shows strange searches. He says they aren't his. And then there are the persistent calls on his mobile phone. So what really did happen to Nick's beautiful wife?

Blackwater has 5 copies and there are already 12 holds, so get your name on the list!

The Age of Miracles by Karen Thomason Walker - Imagines the coming-of-age story of young Julia, whose world is thrown into upheaval when it is discovered that the Earth's rotation has suddenly begun to slow, posing a catastrophic threat to all life. - Speculative literary fiction, great reviews are popping up all over the place.

Blackwater has 3 copies, 1 of which is available, so snatch it up while you can.

The Chaperone by Laura Moriarty - A novel about the friendship between an adolescent, pre-movie-star Louise Brooks, and the 36-year-old woman who chaperones her to New York City for a summer, in 1922, and how it changes both their lives.- Great for those interested in silent films and the Roaring Twenties.

Blackwater has 2 copies that were just cataloged yesterday.
